Big Lake’s Citizens State Bank was robbed. The robbers escaped via planes, trains and automobiles. The newspaper coverage was state-wide if not nation-wide. Dorothy Moores has a folder of clippings to share for your reading enjoyment.
The articles span from the earliest reports through to the robber’s trials.
Quite of few of our members have personal stories to share about this event. I even found out from reading the articles that my sister-in-law Susan Hinrichs’ brother Bob Brown was the first citizen on the site after the robbers left. Sue joked that when her other brother Mike Brown entered the bank shortly after Bob and saw him in the back trying to free the staff from where they were locked in, Mike’s first thought was that Bob was actually robbing the bank!
I did my best to scan the newspapers but my scanner isn’t big enough to scan the entire pages and someone had cut the articles out of the papers.
Note the Beatles photo on the one paper’s front page, but the headline shouts about the bank robbery! ·
