Ramona Voight Thanks for the side by side comparison. It’s fun to see the changes.
Jason Smith Looks way better 100 years ago!!!
Kathy Arneson What is it in the sky on the older photo?
Ramona Voight Or, like always, someone has thrown their shoes over the line. ![]()
Jana HarrerGroup Admin Lisa Richwine Olson you can see Brown’s Hotel in the older photo here. Someone helpfully wrote hotel above it.
Lisa Richwine Olson Thank you for tagging me! Cool pic

Kathy Arneson It’s 25. Those buildings are presently the Third Rail—the Tribune offices
Stan Lumley IT IS 25 LOOKING NORTH THE BUILDINGS ARE ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE STREET.

Wayne Phyle Somebody help me here, if my memory serves me right wasn’t the third rail originally Guppies Hardware True Value and Then followed by The Farmer’s Daughter antique store
Jana HarrerGroup Admin Oh it dates way back to 1910 it’s been a number of general merchandise stores, a funeral parlor, and the telephone offices.
Sharon Roster No Wayne. Guppies hardware store was in The same building as the post office. P.O.and right was the hardware store.

Stan Lumley I BELIEVE THE BUILDING CENTER LEFT IS THE PUTNAM BUILDING BUILT IN LIKE 1903
Jana HarrerGroup Admin Yes, you’re close on the date. It says 1910 on the top of the building.
Richard Hinrichs 1910 was significant time for elk river big lake and Becker and baileys station because steam trains had to pick up water every 5 miles. That’s why there was a mail stop water and coal station where each of these towns popped up. Would be interesting to see when the tracks went in

Bruce Allan Haley I LIKE THE UFO IN THE OLD ONE
Stan Lumley IN THE 1950S A GUY CAME THROUGH BECKER WITH OXEN AND A RED RIVER OXEN CART. I AM SURE HE CAME THROUGH BIG LAKE ALSO DOES ANY ONE HAVE PICTURES OF THAT? I SAW IT IN PERSON IN BECKER.
Robert Swanson I zoomed in on the picture and I believe I can see traces of two parallel scrape marks left behind by a sharp object going from right to left eventually leading to a surface gouge the shape of a classic UFO in the photograph paper. My two cents.
Robert Swanson First helicopter took flight in 1939.

Jana HarrerGroup Admin Well as long as you took a scientific approach to your analysis all is good.

Kim Snook-Northenscold Cool like the side by side of the then and now.
👍🏻
Lee Fischer Jana I Like all the photos…. I Like being a Big Lake Resend …And Looking all The Changes…
Jim Swanson Jana Harrer I would love a nice copy of the real one if I could I would pay you for it as when printing from here to there it is not as nice .
Jana HarrerGroup Admin The old one or the comparison? I can send you an email of a high res version just pm me with want you want and your email me. You can print at Walmart, target, Walgreens, etc.

Bobbie Stratton What’s that in middle in sky
Bobbie Stratton Lol sure but today in age I would do that lmao
Ruth Carlson The only thing unchanged, minus the canopies, are the brick buildings. Nothing else. I wonder what it will look like in another 100 years. There probably won’t have any of the old look left. Kind of sad.
